Helicopter Fly-In July 13-14, 2013

Post by Ron Spiker »

There will be a car cruise and fly-in at Butler County airport (BTP) in PA on July 13th. We'd like to see how many helicopters we can get there. We have approval from a restaurant owner about 15 minutes flight away to land at his restaurant. There is also a nice restaurant on the field there at Butler. She will open early for us (10:00am) for breakfast, for those who go early. The helicopters will all be located at the far east end of the field.

There are several nearby hotels available for those who want to stay the weekend. Transportation will be provided if needed.

On Sunday the 14th the helicopters will relocate a few miles north to Butler Farm Show airport (3G9). We are hoping to have some activities there, and do another fly-out to one of a couple of restaurants we have approval to land at.

There's a chance we could get upwards of 8-10 or more Brantlys to attend. There will also be some Bell 47's, Robinsons, MD 500, Medevac/Lifeflight, some experimentals and others.

I have had many folks ask about our fly-in at Cherry Ridge Airport this year and due to it's location I've decided to support the fly-in in Butler Co. instead. This decision was due to so many Brantlys in the area and the hope that we may be able to assemble the largest group of Brantlys in one spot either ever or at least in the last few decades.I also will have many parts with me for sale, if you have a need for anything special please let me know ahead of time. I feel as though this could be a great opertunity for many of us to meet and have a great time, now all we need is good weather. Happy & safe flying. Bill

Man I would LOVE to attend this but it's a pretty good distance away. Still others, especially Ron, have made some mighty long xcountries in their Brantlys before!

Here's a little updated information about the upcoming fly-in.

We have permission from 3 off-airport restaurants for helicopters to land there. We plan on going to one on Saturday and another Sunday. Perhaps two on Sunday. Also, for those who want to spend the weekend, we have permission to land next to a local Comfort Inn hotel for the night. They are holding 10 rooms for us and gave us a discounted room rate.

We'd like to get an idea of who will be coming and if a room will be needed.

Brantly aficionados, must have been great. We were unable to come. Health issue has arisen and kept me backburner for 2 yrs. Not complaining, explaining.
I need a yr to see if I would still be physically suitable to pursue a license. Plan on some lessons with Ron no matter what.

Tom,
Did you get to fly your Brantly to the fly in? What all did you see?

I've created a small album of a few of the photos I and my son took at the fly-in. They can be found here.

There were 11 helicopters there that I counted: 4-Brantlys, 2-Bell 47's, 1-MD500C, 1-R22, 1-Enstrom 280C, 1-R44, 1-EC135

The last few photos I took when some of us flew to an off-airport restaurant, and on the way back.

Finally got to see your Brantly Tom. Looks very good! Looks like you added a little custom art work to her as well!
