Roy Orr, 74, of Hobart, OK, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at his home with his family. He was born February 5, 1937 near Mountain Park, OK to Donald and Nadine (Farrar) Orr. He attended Mountain Park schools and graduated from Snyder High School. Roy graduated from the Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training in Okmulgee, OK and graduated as a diesel mechanic. During that time he married Glenda Barton on June 16, 1957 and they had three girls. They moved to Frederick, OK where he was employed as a final assembly mechanic for Brantly Helicopter. There he also received his Commercial Helicopter Pilot Certificate. In 1966, he went to work for Bell Helicopter in Ft. Worth, TX as a demonstrative pilot and test pilot. He worked there 14 years. Also in his career, he was a helicopter crop duster in Kearney, NB. In the early 80's, he moved back to Hobart to farm wheat and cotton. In 1982 he started flying "the eye in the sky" Channel 5 helicopter. He then came full circle in his career and went back to work for Brantly Helicopter as a mechanic, test pilot and consultant. He was the only mechanic there that flew his airplane to work everyday. Roy has flow over 50 states, traveled to several countries and taught many people to fly. He met a lot of people along the way and made many friends. He has been an influence on many lives and will be truly missed by all.
