B2B in Oregon 4 sale, gagared for 10 yrs, risks?
Don’t want anyone to feel compelled to reply to my meanderings. I am in research mode and such a novice I probably am irritating.
I lost the link but saw a mid 60s B2B for sale, Hood Mtn Oregon I think. The claim was the owner had been ill and it had just sat in a garage for 10 yrs. Looks nice. It was in a accident, , student & instructor -FFA called the cause inexperience.
What are the risks in of a ship that sat for 10 yrs? Has anyone gone to see this ship?
What is a safe way to ship a ship across the country? Safe meaning being sure its fragility gets respected.
Thx.

Trailer it back or make a nice cross country ferry flight. Some on the forum have quite a bit of experience with that.scrapper wrote:What is a safe way to ship a ship across the country? Safe meaning being sure its fragility gets respected.

In most cases these are the best kind to buy. if it can be bought for the right price. when you purchase any aircraft. it needs gone threw any way just ask a lot of questions about every thing if it's far away get a copy of logs and a close up video talk to ho ever was last mech Sighn off. then discuss it with your mech go from there. for your options Theres is a lot of experienced aircraft shippers out there you can call for your needs.

Anyone, for the exercise, if you were considering buying this craft.
Specifics: Mt Hood OR
N5972X Accident 5/13/1992
+ If I am reading it right, the CFI had 145 hrs total time in rotorcraft but just 2 in a B2B.
+ No injuries to CFI or student
+ Craft damage cited as substantial but no specifics given
+FAA report - Student pilot initiated a right pedal turn while in the hover, but was unable to stop the rotation, when the CFI took over, he also found he was unable to stop the rotation with full pedal deflection, he therefore elected to attempt an autorotation landing, but during the attempt the aircraft rolled over and impacted the ground. Probable cause, delayed remedial action and lack of experience in type of aircraft, etc.
Ad says garaged for 10 yrs.
? Isn’t there a risk post accident the owner was not able to get ship back to good running status?
? How hard it is to determine if damage was done in the accident which might not be observable but created significant mechanical risk that may haunt one day?
? 10 yrs, would seals et al, be dried out? Fuel system varnished?
Thanks for any insights or what you would do if looking at this craft.

SCRAPPER, I'LL GO LOOK IT OVER & HAUL IT FOR YOU. BILL
Re: B2B in Oregon 4 sale, gagared for 10 yrs, risks?
10 years would make me think the cylinders and cams are rusted, fuel system varnished and seals bad, landing gear struts possibly gummed up, clutch sticky from non-use, etc. The bearings in the blades are probably also bad. I would want to buy one running and flown somewhat often. You could buy this machine for $20k and still end up with more in it than a good machine (plus a lot of time.)
Now, if it is in current annual and they will give you a nice demo flight that is a different story; otherwise, just figure you are buying parts.

If your wings aren't turning, they are broken and you had better get them fixed....

Scrapp,
I'm gonna start another thread on your "TITLE ISSUES" comment.
There are some things you need to know in general about how aircraft titles work and what I went through with mine.

I just typed for 30 minutes and it disappeared. I guess I'll do it later in WORD and paste it here. Sorry.

Scrap while apparent you really don't know much about Brantly's or Aviation in general(FAA= Federal Aviation Association not FFA=Future Farmers of America lol) nevertheless I still am glad for your postings to stimulate the board. We all started at the beginning and seeing some discussion on the board is good!
Bryan is one of the most knowledgeable posters on here and I always look forward to what he has to say as I do all the others on here!

I look forward to Bryan’s insights regarding title issues. I am aware liens can be filed with the FAA, but don’t have to be, title search sounds like a necessity? Like any field I am sure there are gangsters. I will start proofing my posts, sorry there.
