Hello All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am a CFI in southern Illinois based at MVN. Most all of my helicopter time is in the Brantly B2B. If I can help anyone out, I would be more than happy to. Can travel if needed.
Thanks,
Dan Miller

Hey Dan:
Do you teach full touchdown autos in the B-2B for the initial CFI Checkride?

Hi Dan
Welcome to the site. Not too many Brantly instructors out there, so its good to know of another one.
Bryan, just FYI, the full down auto is no longer required for the initial CFI checkride.
Here's an FAA Memo in PDF format from April 10, 2006 that talks about the decision. Full touchdown autos are still critically important to know how to do, they're just not required for the initial CFI checkride any longer.
Ron
Thanks Ron

Hey Ron:
Thanks for the FAA Memo . That was the only thing that was keeping me from going ahead.

Best of luck to you. I'm hoping to finish my CFI rating before summer is over too. We'll see how it goes though.

Flylow is correct: you don't have to do full-down autos for the CFI checkride. To answer your question though, I can't do initial CFI training because I don't have the required number of instructional hours required by FAR's. However, I can do enhanced autorotational training if you would like. I am qualified to do the required training for the SFAR73 (Robinson Awareness Training) signoff.
If anyone knows of a B2B for sale, I have a friend who would be interested in purchasing one.

Passed the Flight Instructor Helicopter (FRH) and Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) knowledge tests today. Now on to the oral and flight tests.

Hey, that's great! That's the first (and easiest) step. Good luck on the checkride. Let me know how it goes. Actually, my CFI checkride was the easiest checkride that I took. I'm sure it's not always that way.

My Fixed wing CFI initial was done in a multi and it was a night mare 6hr oral and I had to do my flying over the Everglades at night. The other two CFII, and CFI add on weren't to bad. Thats a joke to I had to get a add on to teach single engine. I could teach in a Multi engine baron but not in a C-150. I always said I wouldn't teach in a helicopter because I lost two friends that way but as I get older I get crazier!
Good luck Ron and thanks for this website it is great.

Well, the FAA has reversed their decision. The full touchdown auto is reinstated as a required task into the CFI checkride.
Here is the new memo.

Well guys, finally made it. I passed the CFI practical test. I ended up doing the checkride in the R22, since there are so few examiners that can do it in the Brantly.
Great News
