Heater

Post by Ron Spiker »

What do you guys do to keep your feet warm during winter flying? With the heater control knob pulled full on, my upper body stays decent warm, but my feet always freeze. I've tried getting the seal around the doors to seal better to keep out the drafts, which has helped some, but not enough. Has anyone come up with a way to get the warm air moving down to your feet?

Heater Solution

Post by bryancobb »

Hi Flylow:

The importance of the defrost fan that was on older Brantly's ,is really underemphasized, and they don't even put them on new ones at all.

I almost got killed in a Robinson R-22 years ago, because the bubble fogged over at night and I didn't feel comfortable pulling "what I THOUGHT was the cabin heat." My mind was playing tricks on me saying "Don't pull THAT knob. It just might be the mixture."

That fan also does a good job circulating the warm air in the cabin to do such wonderful things as WARM COLD FEET, etc.

I have a fan in my Brantly and use it often.

The other answer... check the muffler shroud. The closer it snugs up to the muffler, the better job the engine cooling system will do at forcing more warm air into the cockpit.

Hope this helps,
