Minor Oil Leak

OK, I suspect most of you will think I'm nit picking but.

I have a very small oil leak that I believe is coming from the external oil line fitting to the #3 cyclinder exhaust valve stem.

After about 1 1/2 hours of flight there is 2 or 3 spots about the size of a pencil eraser. It seems to flow through the cylinder cooling fins on to the exhaust manifold an end up on the metal panel right behind the fuel filler cap.

Has anyone delt with this kind of problem before.

I have tightened it enough. Maybe three times or so. It lessens the oil each time but I don't want to tighten it anymore for fear of breaking it off in the cylinder.

Is there some sealer one can put on the threads of the fitting into the cylinder.

Not much activity on the forum. Hope everyone is getting ready for spring flying.

Don,

We saw this problem at the factory and to alleviate the leak, we ended up pulling all of the oil squirters and coating the threads with liquid teflon. We did not put any teflon on the oil line fitting just the squirter threads that go into the engine With the engines removed from the ship this is quite a bit easier, but it's not impossible to do it with the engine in.

By the way, I have recieved my aviator wings from the Army and after ALSE (aviation life support equipment) school, the family and I will be headed to Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Happy Hovering!!

Thanks for the advice. I will take care of this next trip out to the airport.

Alaska! Sounds like a great adventure. Travel safely and Good Luck!
