Infinity Cyclic Grips

I now have an Infinity Cyclic Grip installed to replace the bicycle handle stock grip. Thanks to Bryan Cobb who sent me an old 337 for this from another ship. My A&P filed papers and had FAA field approval for the 337 on my ship, so this should make it easier for anyone else who wants to do the same. If anyone wants a copy, let me know and I can email it.

Basically, it requires cutting off about 2 inches from the old cyclic stick so that the new grip will not fit too high. I use three buttons on the grip for cyclic trim, push-to-talk, and toggle radio frequency.

I really like flying with the new grip. It allows a much lighter grip and better control feel.

Wow. I've been wanting to do this for a while now. I've talked with Infinity about it and have been working on which buttons I want to control which functions. Hoping to get them this fall/winter. I would like a copy of the 337. Do you have a picture you could post also?

Infinity Cyclic Grip

Here are some pictures of the Infinity grip in my B-2B. When I ordered it, from JD, I told him what buttons I wanted and not to include all of the stock buttons since I would not be using them all. The buttons can be customized a number of ways -- you don't have to do it like I did. If you do get the grips, be sure to order the 7/8" OD spacer.

Steve,
I like the new grip. I think I want one.

What was the cost to convert?
How much work was involved?
I asked about these once & was told it was rather expensive and a lot of work.

Cost of Grip

Don,

The cost of the grip is $156.00 and $15.60 for the spacer, plus shipping. The A&P charged 4 hours of time for the installation. He has not yet finished the cyclic trim because he is waiting for a relay he ordered. The grip comes with all of the wires for all of the buttons (even those that were not installed) making the wiring bundle tube too big to thread down through the stick, so he cut off the tube and just threaded the wires that he needed.

Hey Guys:

Just to let you know.

These grips come FROM THE FACTORY on the Eagle 150 certified airplane.

PN 104-0377.

If Your A&P/IA or the FAA Field rep. has any reservations, this should help
convince them.

California Fire Impacts Infinity Aerospace

If anyone has been trying to contact Infinity Aeropsace about the grips, it may be awhile before they get back to you. I got this email today from the J.D Newman:

Hi All,

I thought I'd send a short note out while I can, while the electricity
is back on. It's been out since Sunday, and we've been kinda busy.

In case you hadn't heard, San Diego County has been declared a disaster
area -- the worst fire in documented history. Over 300,000 acres, over
500 square miles, over 1200 homes, and hundreds of businesses have
burned. 14 people are known dead.

Thousands of people are sleeping on high school gym floors, and in
tents in city parks and football stadiums all over the county.

Animals are relocated into the infield of the local car race track,
across from our hangar and office.

Everyone has masks on. In fact, it is *very* dangerous to be outside
without a mask. Your eyes and throat really burn. Lungs ache.
Breathing is very difficult, and the paper masks barely help.

Haven't seen the sky since Saturday. The smoke, ash and soot is sooo
thick, it's incredible. The sky changes color from grey, black, white,
yellow, orange to red, depending on what the winds are doing to the
fires. The ash and soot is blowing everywhere into my hangars -- what a
mess!

It's like a movie you've seen where an asteroid has hit the earth, but
we're really in it!

As I type, they are still evacuating towns and communities east and
north of us as the fires come this way.
We have fires just north, east and south of us. In fact, we can see
the fires from our home to the north and east. Haven't slept much
either, watching the fires and the news.
We have loaded up our 2 vehicles with our important stuff from our
home, and have moved stuff to my office and hangars to the west, getting
as ready as we can in case we have to evacuate, too, before our home
burns. We'd end up on the office floor :-( .

If you've tried to call me or e-mail me, the phones have been messed up
and there's been no power for days. I will try to get back to you when
I can.

This is supposed to continue for at least 5 more days -- I bet longer.
We'll see what happens.

Steve,
I see that your new grip has the top hat for the cyclic trim. My ship has the original switch for the trim right under the collective on the floor. It only has the forward and aft trim.

I had some time in a F-28 Enstrom once that had this type of top hat switch and it had forward, aft & lateral trim as well.

I don't suppose the new set up has the lateral trim does it?

I find that hovering with me alone in the ship requires left cyclic. More so at approach to hover.

Really sounds bad out in So. Cal.

Trim Switch

Don,

The switch on the grip will just activate the same trim motor on the bottom. Basically now there are two switches for the same thing, one on the floor and one on the grip.
