cruise speed

Post by Nick »

I would like to hear what sort of cruise speed other people are doing. My brantly wants to cruise fast at max all up wt - 100 mph is easy at 21-22" I have been holding it back. My LAME wants me to fly at 80-85mph. Comments please?

My cruise depends more on the wind than anything else. The higher the wind speed, the more I slow down, to keep the flight more comfortable. In light winds I'll normally cruise 90-100. I think I'm normally pulling a little more MP than you are though when up near 100. When the flight is bumpier, I'll slow down around 80-85 for comfort level.

Why does the LAME want you to fly at 80-85?

Hi Jim,
Gradually getting everything sorted. Still running a bit rich and oiling a couple of plugs but its coming right with a bit of flying. Weve done about 30 hours this month so far and if wind drops I'll do a few in next few days. It is ptretty hard to hold taxying in over 12 knots wind but im getting used to it. Hows yours going?
Best regards
Nick
