Cold weather flying

Boy is it cold up here in Pennsylvania. Still decided to go out today though. Spent several hours heating everything up and getting ready, then was only able to stay out for about 45 minutes. The local airport's fuel pumps were down so I couldn't refuel.

Here's the first picture, just prior to start up.

Here's showing how cold it was today. 7-8°F with a wind chill of about -5°.

Well, member 5914x and I went flying today. Mid 20's, sunny and clear sky, little wind, but still lots of snow. Had to be real careful on takeoff and landing, for the blowing snow, but no problems. Took it up to 7,000' and had not run out of power yet. Real nice flight.

About 30 degrees today, almost no wind. Went out for 3+ hours. Had my son along and was working with him on the controls. Didn't take too long before he was using both hands and feet. For about 15 minutes I was just assisting him, and obviously never being away from the controls, but he was doing most of the flying.

By the way.... he's 11 years old!

I have two more after him. 9 and 7. They've all been flying with me since they were 5-3-2. I really enjoy sharing the joy of flying these machines with them, and they love it too!

Here's a couple more from last weekend and today.

Guess he thought he'd be cold inside.

This was today. Flew about 2 hours. Temp was about 20 degrees F.

This stop was at my brother's farm.

Thanks RD. Hoping to have all this CFI stuff done within the next couple of months. We'll see how it goes though.
