TRUE Operating Costs...

Post by RDRickster »

What is your average HOURLY operating cost (include unscheduled maintenance, regular inspections, scheduled maintenance, insurance, fuel, oil, etc)?

The answer will vary with age, number of flying hours, location, and flying conditions. Nevertheless, I thought it would be a useful comparison for everyone. Please do NOT include the purchase price, financing of your aircraft, nor any hanger fees.

Hi RD,

My average hourly operating cost for 2003, excluding the items you listed, was right around $90, and I had just under 100 hours flying in 2003. This is probably a higher cost than usual (and expected), but I had some unplanned maintenance that took the average up. I'm expecting my average for this year to be about the same as last. I'm not getting quite as many hours this year, but again had a couple items that needed replaced which is keeping the average higher than desired.
