Backwards, looks like disaster. Shouldn’t he have either accelerated or decelerated, it looks like his speed/life was just enough to be in trouble. I realize once in that circumstance, they probably were trying to right it but.
Isn’t an instructor expected to take over?

There is a lot that went wrong in that video, but I'm not sure I understand your questions.
"Accelerate and go, and go forward" - If you're just hovering and doing ground maneuvers you don't need to accelerate in any specific direction, but you can go forward, sideways, or backwards.
"accelerated or decelerated" - for what reason? We don't know that he was trying to go anywhere. He's hovering and then got way out of control, and then handled everything incorrectly after that. He didn't need to speed up nor slow down, but did need to get it on the ground!
"instructor" - what instructor? Just because there are 2 people in there doesn't mean that one is an instructor. Most likely if one had been an instructor, it would have never gotten into that situation.

Growing up a neighbor had a Brantly ~1962 thru 1981 - I don't know his hours, but it was substantial and I will find out the #. He never had a accident and in a book he just wrote at age 90 in a chapter about his copter, only related one scare, it was a mechanical issue he discovered just in time. I will look it up and type it out here, just for info purposes.
I believe he was very maintenance conscious and used good discretion regarding weather.
He was a veterinarian and used it to visit farms.
