I just heard that Brantly is buying Superior Engines. Anyone know about this and any details?

"Superior, based in Coppell, makes replacement parts for piston-powered aircraft engines. It has received what’s known as a “stalking horse” bid worth about $7.5 million from a Vernon-based helicopter manufacturer called Brantly International Inc., according to court records. A stalking horse bid is the first proposal for a bankrupt business, with that bidder being chosen by the business to make the initial pitch."

Re: Superior Engine
It's one in a line of several. Lycoming and Continental already submitted bids in the 11 to 14 million range and were rejected due to their intention of shutting Superior down. Others have been rejected as well but I do not know why. It will be interesting to see what comes of it. Either way it does seem to indicate that the owners have serious intentions regarding the business which will hopefully be good news for all of us.

The Chinese bought them. Here's an AOPA article about it.
