Got an email from Mark in North Texas about "Flying a Brantly in the summer heat in Texas". He asked me to post something on the website, he said something to the effect that he wanted to know how it was performing.
First let me tell you there are few that put as many hrs. on the Brantly as we do, power is not a issue for 2 when it is cool, especially in the winter .
We utilize a B2b, 180 horse, fuel injected Lycoming (standard)- picture attached.
I flew it last summer with 460 lbs of pilots, with 3/4 tank of fuel, and 100 degrees outside.
This summer we are flying in the mornings and afternoons with 380 lbs of pilots, 90 degrees ,3/4 tank of gas, and density altitudes of 2300 -top.
The humidity this year in north Texas is tough.
I weigh 220 lbs (225 after coffee) and can fly anytime by my self. it has plenty of power for me.
The Brantly is a well built helicopter. It performs well and would be compared by me to a 269a. Could use more tail rotor authority, little more power, but is typical of the 60s design. If you keep your rpm’s in the green you should have no problems.
The Brantly is a low maintenance cost helicopter; parts are there, about half the cost of other helicopters it is compared to.
If you are looking for a personal use helicopter that is affordable look at the Brantly.
If you buy one, buy one that is flown regularly.
If you buy one that has been sitting up call Ray or Harold, I would suggest going through the tail rotor gear boxes first.

We have a ground school starting August 3rd, T/Th nights, if you want to fly, take lessons in, or get checked off in a Brantly let us know, we have an examiner and experienced CFIs. we have had pilots come all the way From England just to fly the Brantly. Have 3 coming from other areas this month.

Thanks for the post Shan. Good information to be sure. How many hours have you managed to put on your B2b since you started up? At one time the Brantly Hynes factory really was flying them around the clock back in the day.
