Dual shower of sparks.
Anyone else install a dual SofS for both mags? How does it work for you?
Shower of Sparks
Hey Guy:
Maybe this will will answer your question.
The shower of sparks is ONLY in use during startup!
When you push the starter button...the left Mag is completely eliminated from the system. The right mag has 2 sets of points. (1 Normal Set-which is timed 28 degrees +/- before TDC) and (1 Retard set which is timed a lot closer to TDC for easier starting and idling).
When the starter button is pressed, the right mag starts operating on the Retard points (for easier starting). When the starter button is pressed, the shower of sparks starts "vibrating to beat hell" and sending thousands of hot sparks to the right mag for distribution when the Retard points say so. The intensity of the spark is NOT related to how FAST the starter is spinning the engine because the shower of sparks made the sparks, NOT the old-timey magneto.
When the engine starts and you let the button go, the shower of sparks goes OFF, the right mag switches back onto the Normal points, and the left mag comes back online. Then since it's trying to idle with timing at 28 Degrees BTC, It's rough and sounds like a Harley with a punctured lung.
Thanks,
Bryan
From that point on, the shower of sparks DOES NOTHING until the next time you startup.
