Re: Blade cracking

Over a two year period i had 4 x 202 blades crack severely. One had an in flight catastrophic failure involving approx 18inches at inboard end of outboard blade. Interesting landing! We also did in 6 dampers. Brantly sent Chris Gerrard to NZ and we striped and rebuilt rotor head and installed new 40...

Re: Tail rotor mod

The factory sell a tail rotor kit that apparently allows more tail rotor pitch travel.
More tail rotor pitch = more tail rotor authority (only if power is available.)

Tail rotor mod

Has anyone any experience with the tail rotor mod that gives more pitch?
I take it also takes more power?

Blades

Has anyone any idea how many 202 blades have become U/s due to cracking? Also have any 101 or 404 blades failed. I am aware of at least 8 blades that have failed with less than 700hrs. Nick

Thanks for comments. The dampers were supplied by Brantly new in September 2005. I also replaced all the bolts and bushes between inner and outer blades. The dampers had all separated by mid february 2006. At over $800 per set its getting expensive. The outer blades are all rigged dead straight- on ...

Has anyone else had dampers fail within low hours? I have had 3 new dampers fail within 50 hours. The late Bernard Finch had also had 3 dampers fail on a new machine possibly with similar hours? I have taken posted advice to shorthen damper travel with a 1/32 inch washer with considerable improvemen...

When my machine was purchased (750hrsTT) it had a dutch roll. Only over 8o mph and worse at max wt and temp over 20 degrees C. Also we found out board blades were rigged 1/4 in forward. H269C experts say leading is no no, lag is ok. Anyway we replaced dampers (2 were separated) leaving 1/4" lea...

Hi Jim, Gradually getting everything sorted. Still running a bit rich and oiling a couple of plugs but its coming right with a bit of flying. Weve done about 30 hours this month so far and if wind drops I'll do a few in next few days. It is ptretty hard to hold taxying in over 12 knots wind but im g...
