Starting Problems

Hello FlyLow, So far lots of good input from others. Biggest deal, having a good starter and battery, good starting vibrator, and good points in starting magneto, and proper throttle setting. Steve brought up the Skytech starter, like he said, be sure you have the right "tooth" set up and ...

Valves and Carb Icing

Thanks for the heads up on Marvel Mystery Oil, I have heard of that along with AvBlend? an additive recommended by Lycoming. Supposedly the Aeroshell 15W50 and 100 Plus have the recommended additive to help, but to date have not seen any difference. Carb Icing, for both B-2's and B-2A's CAN be a pot...

Sticking Exhaust Valves

Any body out there having any problems with exhaust valves sticking? Newer Lycoming (most 360 series) engines seem to be prone to it, older ones not. I never had a problem until flying the newer ships. Seems to be evident right after start up. I have been starting and idling at 1000RPM until oil pre...

Tabbing

Hello Tod, You are right in my being against tabbing. The best way to look at it is that if everything was tracked and balanced at one point in time, what has ocurred over the last 100 or 500 hours to change the aero-dynamic shape of the blade and change its track? Basically, nothing. Tabbing is use...

Have seen and used Steve's tow bar, mates to front of skids, providing another set of wheels for the front end, and also hooks to trailer hitch for towing. If you leave it unhitched, it still provides an easier method of moving around, by eliminating need to have to push down on tail while also tryi...

Thrust Bearing Lubrication

Hello Steve and other Brantly operators and maintainers, When thrust bearings are first installed, they shoud be pre-packed with grease (most everyone knows this). However, once installed in the blade and after the system is put back on the helicopter, each blade should be greased (about 10 shots ea...
