Re: MY FIRST BRANTLY
Looks to be a very clean ship, Your B2A N5914X is really close to the B2 N5911X I have owned since 1972, unfortunately, it is never going to fly again. In need now of just too much work and replacement of numerous damaged components that had been removed and stored, roof leaked............... end of...

Re: FLYING A BRANTLY
Tom, Personally, my thinking is that it has a great deal more to do with the economy then losing interest with regards to Helicopters. At 8.5 to 11 GPH * What is ave gas now? takes a lot of the " I'm gonna fly today" out . And the cost of parts and maintenance is staggering now. I don't th...

Re: Oil leaks
May be fun flying but not much filling. Told my wife she had plenty of time after work to get a second job so there would be more funds available to get the Brantly going, she wasn't particularly agreeable with that, countered with what about just a part time second job?, she walked away, wonder if ...
Re: Heavy fog
Backwards auto's is a new one for me, never did those, never heard of them actually but I can see that they should be part of any complete instruction. Did lots of the others mentioned though and lots of them on my own after getting my license. When I got my rotorcraft Helicopter license there were ...
Re: Heavy fog
Ron, Great pictures I remember being taught and practicing 360 autos for an area directly below you, also remember I didn't care much for them. They rather gripped your attention with the seemingly very nose down attitude, you also had to pull some collective as the rotor RPM wanted to increase. Do ...

Re: Transmission rotor rpm cable and dual tach
$500 bucks now, one can easily forget just how far inflation has taken us till you look back, had mine overhauled about mid 1970 and quite certain the cost was less the $80.

Re: Engine mount dimensions
Not sure where I'd find an engine mount around here, but that would be ideal.
Brian,
That would be very quick and right now quick with no hassle may be a very good option.
Thanks guys

Engine mount dimensions
Any one have the dimensions for the engine mount hole locations? When I rebuilt this engine I made a stand, after tripping over it for years finally just tossed it saying to my self, won't be needing that again. Well... of course it did not turn out that way and need to replace at least one push rod...

Re: BRANTLY interest
Hi Guys and hopefully some Gals also flying Brantly's.
Thought you would get a kick out of this.
A decal I got from Brantly decades ago.
It could be printed out easily.

Re: Running takeoffs and landings
Thanks for the encouragement seneca2e. Tom, you after the scary ones  #1 Not So Scary story. Engine failure, used to keep it at my place in the back yard with a group of trees surrounding, while there was a clear way out my normal approach was high and from wherever direction I came in from. Th...

Re: Running takeoffs and landings
It was taken down many years ago for a 1200hr. I had a very good working relationship with a AI (John Wilson) where I would do the work, he would supervise as required and do the paper work. During this time he had a massive heart attack and died, let me hasten to say his death was of greater import...

Re: Running takeoffs and landings
Very nice looking and sounding ship, makes me miss flying mine but am working on getting it going again.
I always practiced these on soft ground because that was the most likely scenario when/if used, and I hated the idea of the grinding that was taking place below me.

Re: Main transmission ring gear set.
It would be the quickest for sure but this was a very low time (172 Hrs) unit purchased many years ago. I tore it down and had all the steel components magnafluxed with all new bearings purchased. If a set of gears can be found it would likely be much less expensive then a complete MRGB. I'll look i...

Main transmission ring gear set.
Main transmission ring / sun gear set. Any one purchased a serviceable set of these recently where I could get an idea as too cost? Had put mine up some years back after having had them magnafluxed, well they were not put where I thought and when found there had been some water had actually dripped ...
