About time to fly again.

How about it? Is there anyone left on here that flies their Brantly?

Re: Sad News

I just learned of Gary’s accident. I was thinking of getting the Brantly out and always think of Gary as he was the key reason along with Steve(Harold’s stepson) that got mine flying many years ago. Probably had been a year or so since I talked to him and just learned the news from a mutual friend. ...

Anyone flying their Brantly?

I still am. The short days force me to do more night flying that I really want to though. I much prefer to fly of the day. It's just safer from my viewpoint. BUT this time of year to get any flight time in you might have to suck it up and get out there and fly at night lol. Be careful with the crazy...

Re: Brantly article in EAA magazine

Thanks for the heads up Brad. I'll look that up! The tail rotor authority is a bit weak in my opinion. Individual machines seem to vary-I've tried to set mine exactly by the book but still it takes an awful lot of the available pedal. Maybe because I'm using close to full power a lot in the hover. W...

Wow Starkiller that is a awesome post and it's great your Dad is still with us. Just amazing how a relative handful of dedicated individuals have been able to keep this great machine flying!

Re: old picture

I clicked on the picture URL and here is who these men are! "Michael Hynes, president of Brantly-Hynes Co. of Frederick, and test pilot Olvis Jones, right, check out the Brantly-Hynes helicopter." So Starkiller is Olvis Jones daughter! Thanks for posting on the board. Please introduce your...

Helicopter instruction musings

I've been a commercial fixed wing and helicopter CFI for well over 30 years. Giving quite a bit of dual in fixed wings I never really noticed how little I got to fly the plank. Probably because does it really matter in the airplane? But the helicopter is different. You want to be the one flying it m...

Re: Amanda solos!

Thanks guys. Amanda is actually 24 and she has about 5 hours in an Enstrom as well. A few days later I soloed another young man 21 years old. I had another gentleman in his mid 50's that I guess you could say "washed out". I still think he can do it but it became frustrating to him because...

Amanda solos!

I soloed my daughter Amanda in the Brantly a couple of days ago. She has her private single engine land rating already and is well on her way to getting her helicopter rating!
