I had to change the rotor brake a few times. A couple of times were because I didn't release the brake all the way after start. (Dumb Me!) Also, it will wear fairly quickly if you apply it a too high an RPM. It's not the easiest job to replace the lining. You need special rivits and tools. It is eas...

I used the Garmin GPS Pilot III mounted on top of the instrument panel. I had previously mounted a 12 volt power receptacle in front of the panel. It looked good and worked very well.

I was in the same situation and ended up replacing the unit with a flasher. Total cost about $120 with the adapter. The new unit is quiet and looks good, so I am satisfied.

I was taught (by a Brantly Instructor) to roll the throttle to idle, then lower the collective all the way down. Then while observing the split needles, to slowly roll the throttle to about 2000 RPM. Keep it there until the power recovery. There is very little throttle to be added as the collective ...

That's the situation I was in just prior to my accident. I don't think it's unusual. As the outside temp increases, the performance really decreases. I think that's called "density altitude".

I just saw the final NTSB report and found that the "highly qualified" instructor did NOT have all the qualifications that he had bragged about. He had no Bell 47 time. In fact, all 950 hours of his experience were in a R-22, with the exception of 6 hours in a Bell 206. So he had no helico...

Helicopter Accident

Here's the story from the first one on the scene of the accident. On Monday, May 5th, I flew a Brantly helicopter N2141U from Melbourne, Florida to the Lantana airport. I had made a contract to sell the aircraft. As a condition of that sale, I was to deliver the helicopter to Lantana and I agreed to...
